So, you can't find a job? Business isn't hiring. The company you worked at for years sent a messenger boy to your office / cubicle / desk telling you to clean out your things, you've got 5 minutes to do so. And to finish with a dagger to your heart, had security watching you the entire time. How did that feel? How has being a "company man / woman" worked out for you?
If you're a middle aged person, have you noticed that even though you felt that you nailed the interview, you didn't get a call back? Simple, really. They'll never tell you this because it's against the law, but it's your age.
So now the question is, what do you do? Sit around and have a pity party? Complain about how the big, bad world isn't fair? Did your parents actually tell you that it was? Or are you one of the "Trophy Kids?" You know the ones, they played youth sports and were given trophies just for showing up. Don't know whose idea that was, but it crippled a whole generation of kids for life. Because it teaches them that they don't have to compete. That all they have to do is show up to be rewarded. Ridiculous. Good luck surviving in this hyper competitive world. These kids are going to get eaten alive.
You can sit around and complain or you can do something productive. Like start a business, any type of business. Whether it be a home business, MLM / network marketing business, a direct sales company or the old brick and mortar type of small business. Can't do that, you say? I have no experience. What type of business?
As far as the type of business, make a list of things that you like and like to do. This will get you pointed in the right direction. I personally chose a Network Marketing / Direct Sales model because I like sales. I've been in the professional sales industry for 20+ years. It's what I do. But sales might not be your thing. I might add however, that any business that you start will require sales skills. You have to sell people on coming into your place of business. Employees have to be sold on why they need to do certain job functions. The point is, do something. It's your responsibility and mine to help create jobs. It's not the governments' job. Not to mention that government has no clue how to create jobs.
Here's a good example of government thinking. I watched an interview with President Clinton the other day. As a general rule I don't watch the news anymore. And while I don't agree with his politics, I do respect the man and besides, he is always an interesting interview. He was trying to justify the "TARP" stimulus fiasco and stated that 90% of TARP money will eventually be paid back. Eventually? Nice. I'm no Stephen Hawking, but if I loan you a dollar and you "eventually" pay me back $.90, that's not very smart business. Need I remind you that it's our ( mine and yours ) money that they are losing money on? And you want government running things? Please. Just so you know and in the interest of full disclosure, I am a stone cold capitalist. If I ran my business this way, how long would I be in operation?
My apologies, got sidetracked. Back to the point. It's our moral and social responsibility to get this country moving again. And small business is the one tried and true method to create employment. If not you, who? If not me, who? If not now, when? It takes courage, perseverance and faith. Can't do it you say? What about the person who started the business where you worked? What if they wouldn't have had the courage to start the company? Are you going to wait for them to lay it on the line again? They already did their part. It's your turn. It's time to step up to the plate and return the favor that they did for you. Create a job, don't just fill one. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Or you can whine and complain about the world not being fair. It's your choice. Just don't tell it to me, you'll get no sympathy.
